Courageous Conversations: Every Heart Mattters Teacher of the Year, Kristine Holstine

When:  March 6 from 6 to 7:30 pm

MN 2018-19 Teacher of the Year Presentation by Kelly Holstine

The Education Department at St. Catherine University cordially invites you to attend two energizing events designed to support your growth and sense of well-being in the classroom.  Both events are scheduled on March 6 and are free of charge. Feel free to forward this email to any educators you feel would be interested in attending.

 Courageous Connections: Every Heart Matters

Kelly Holstine will highlight the importance of owning flaws and prioritizing one’s own mental health in order to make more authentic connections with others. She will reveal the roles vulnerability and courageous connections play in creating equity for every heart – along with insights borne of personal struggles that helped her become a better teacher and healthier human being. Lastly, Holstine will share her journey as a gender non-conforming, lesbian teacher and how it has helped her be an advocate for at-risk students.

Bio: Kelly Holstine is an English teacher at Tokata Learning Center in Shakopee – an alternative high school that she helped to design and open in 2012 that serves students in grades 9 through 12 in the Shakopee district and surrounding areas. Her professional experiences in media, team building, social work, and education have helped to shape both her teaching philosophy and practice. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts and a master’s degree from Augsburg College.
